[Vance: Iran Must Substantially Reduce Uranium Enrichment Capacity, U.S. Will Not Accept Verbal Promises] BlockBeats News, October 7, U.S. Vice President Vance stated that if Iran wishes to end the seven-month-long U.S.-Iran war, it must first 'substantially' reduce its uranium enrichment capacity to demonstrate its lack of intent to develop nuclear weapons. The U.S. will not exchange concrete actions for verbal promises from Iran. In an interview with Reuters, Vance said, 'If you don’t want nuclear weapons, why do you need 60% enriched uranium?' He emphasized that the U.S. remains willing to resolve the issue through diplomatic means, but both sides must adhere to the principle of 'action for action.' The core objective of the U.S. is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to stop other Middle Eastern countries from seeking nuclear capabilities as a result. Currently, the core disagreement in U.S.-Iran negotiations revolves around the sequence of ceasefire and nuclear issues. Iran demands that the U.S. first implement a ceasefire, lift port blockades, release frozen assets, and adjust oil export sanctions before discussing nuclear issues. The U.S., on the other hand, requires Iran to first take concrete measures to limit its nuclear activities and prevent the reconstruction of enrichment facilities damaged during the war. Vance noted that the U.S. and Iran have recently been exchanging proposals through mediators such as Qatar, but earlier preliminary arrangements regarding the restoration of passage through the Strait of Hormuz and subsequent discussions on Iran’s nuclear program have failed to hold. Vance also warned that if an agreement meeting U.S. requirements cannot be reached, the U.S. may expand military actions after the midterm elections in November.
