[Self-proclaimed 'Godfather' of cryptocurrency sentenced to 78 months for $37 million Meta fraud, sentence to run concurrently with prior 15-year conviction]
Odaily Planet Daily reports: 26-year-old cryptocurrency figure Adam Iza has been sentenced to 78 months in prison and ordered to pay $23.4028 million in restitution for hiring off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies to harass rivals, defrauding Meta of over $37 million, and concealing the proceeds through cryptocurrency custodial institutions. Adam Iza was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to rob Bitcoin, and the 78-month sentence will run concurrently with the prior conviction, meaning his actual prison time will not increase.
Five former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were convicted for their involvement in related activities. Between December 2020 and 2022, Adam Iza obtained Meta business management accounts and associated credit lines, reselling them to advertising companies, which resulted in Meta clients being charged for ads they did not purchase. He generated at least $36.3608 million in revenue through company accounts, caused $13.2862 million in losses to the IRS, and concealed ownership of Zort while transferring company income to cryptocurrency custodial institutions.
