From January 2 to October 2, 2026, there has been a significant divergence in capital flows within the South Korean stock market. Domestic capital has focused on purchasing core semiconductor stocks in the AI industry chain, such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, while foreign capital has significantly reduced its holdings. Reportedly, South Korean individual investors have accumulated net purchases of Samsung Electronics worth 43.1143 trillion KRW and SK Hynix worth 39.5028 trillion KRW this year. Institutional investors have similarly bet on semiconductors, with net purchases of Samsung Electronics totaling 11.6193 trillion KRW and SK Hynix totaling 8.5265 trillion KRW. In contrast, foreign investors have cumulatively net sold Samsung Electronics worth 84.5702 trillion KRW and SK Hynix worth 82.5040 trillion KRW, while also reducing their holdings in stocks such as Hyundai Motor and SK Square.
