[Kazuo Ueda Has Not Sent a Clear Signal, Market Still Bets BOJ Will Hold Rates in October]
Jin10 News, October 6 – Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated on Tuesday: "We will continue to gradually raise policy rates and adjust the degree of monetary easing based on developments in economic activity, prices, and financial conditions. We will consider the timing and pace of adjustments after assessing risks and the likelihood of achieving the baseline scenario for the economy and prices."
Kazuo Ueda made these remarks as economists widely expect the Bank of Japan to maintain its current policy at the next policy meeting, which concludes on October 30. Ueda reiterated the BOJ's policy stance and economic assessment, suggesting he sees no need to alter market expectations while leaving room for a rate hike after October.
Overnight index swap market pricing indicates that investors see about a 12% probability of a BOJ rate hike this month; factoring in the December meeting, the probability rises to approximately 90%.
