Core members of Qilin ransomware gang arrested in Japan and extradited to Germany for extortion of approximately $165000 in Bitcoin Odaily Planet Daily News: A 28 year old Russian core member of the globally renowned ransomware gang Qilin has been arrested in Japan and extradited to Germany on October 2nd in accordance with the law. According to reports, the man is suspected of illegally hacking into a German logistics company's system and encrypting data in September 2024, demanding and extorting approximately $165000 (approximately 26 million yen) worth of Bitcoin. The investigation shows that he was responsible for building the attack system in the Qilin criminal network and took a proportional percentage of the ransom collected from each branch execution team. The Japanese police took control of him during his trip to Osaka in late May this year, and then transferred him to the German side after the Tokyo High Court ruled that he met the conditions. Qilin operates under the "Ransomware as a Service" (RaaS) model and previously claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Japan's Asahi Group in 2025. (Nada News)
