[Polymarket Sues Dutch Gambling Regulator to Overturn Prediction Market Ban]
Odaily Planet Daily News: Polymarket has filed a lawsuit in a Dutch court seeking to overturn the ban imposed by the Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) on its prediction market. The company argues that its event contracts should be classified as derivatives and regulated by the Dutch Financial Markets Authority (AFM), rather than the KSA. On January 20, KSA ordered Polymarket to cease providing services to Dutch users within four weeks or face a weekly fine of €420,000, up to a maximum of €840,000. KSA stated that inspectors had registered an account using a Dutch IP address, deposited €10 via a Dutch bank account, and purchased a $1 "Yes" share in the "Next Dutch Prime Minister" market. Polymarket claims it implemented IP blocking on February 18, but KSA determined the measure was one day late and decided to impose a €420,000 fine. On June 23, KSA rejected Polymarket's appeal, emphasizing that Dutch law prohibits gambling on non-sports events and licensed operators are not allowed to accept cryptocurrency payments.
