[U.S. Treasury Admits Issues with Previous Mixer-Related Rules, Tornado Cash Co-Founder Roman Storm Says DOJ Still Pursues Conviction] Odaily Planet Daily News: Roman Storm posted on the X platform stating that the U.S. Treasury recently acknowledged in a document that there were issues with previous rules targeting mixers and mentioned that the policy might have a 'chilling effect' on legitimate activities. Storm noted that although the relevant department of the U.S. Treasury now recognizes problems with the policy, the Department of Justice (DOJ) still insists in his case that even legitimate transactions conducted through Tornado Cash are considered illegal due to their potential use for money laundering, sanction evasion, and other criminal purposes. Storm claimed that while the non-criminal departments of the U.S. government deem the policy inappropriate, the criminal justice department considers all related transactions as criminal. He has been detained and prosecuted for over 1,139 days, stating that his case stems from developing open-source code. Storm also revealed that the Southern District of New York (SDNY) filed a new document today, and the DOJ is still pushing for his conviction.
