Borrowing this tweet from 福利哥, I noticed a lot of friends telling me today that hotel prices in Singapore have skyrocketed over the past two days. Many hotels are now over 10,000 RMB per night. I casually searched on Trip (Ctrip's international version), and while prices have gone up a bit, it’s not as crazy as people are saying.
For example, five-star hotels are generally around 2,000+ RMB per night, including family-friendly hotels in Sentosa. If you’re looking to stay near Orchard Road, there are plenty of options in the 3,000 to 4,000 RMB range per night.
For four-star hotels with rooms around 20 square meters, you can still find options for just over 1,000 RMB per night. The rooms are indeed a bit small, but if it’s just for one person, it’s more than enough.
If you’re looking for something cheaper, Singapore also has chain hotels similar to those in China. These are generally under 1,000 RMB or just slightly over. The rooms are smaller, usually around 12 square meters, but if you’re just looking for a place to sleep with a private bathroom, it’s sufficient.
These prices are actually pretty comparable to Hong Kong. I remember the last time I went to Hong Kong for an event, the prices were in a similar range.
Another important thing to note is that Singapore is relatively small. You can basically get from one place to another within 30 minutes by taxi, which costs around 30 SGD. If you’re not in a rush, the MRT can get you there for about 3 SGD.
Personally, I feel that the travel costs are pretty much on par with Hong Kong.
