BlockBeats news, on October 5, a Douyin user (Mr. Li Yi) posted a video on social media stating that on June 10 of this year, he downloaded a 'fake wallet' from the Huawei official store, which led to the exposure of his mnemonic phrase and the theft of 177,473 USDT. According to the description, hackers changed the wallet address permissions to multi-signature and later conducted a second scam, claiming that the wallet could be 'unlocked for a fee.' After the victim transferred funds, all USDT in the address was taken by the hackers. Due to his video exposing the app's violations, the app's download volume in the official store plummeted. Hackers repeatedly mobilized bot accounts to report his video, forcing it to be taken down, and privately attempted to negotiate a 'conditional video removal' agreement. The victim stated that after conducting his own investigation, he discovered that the fraudulent app had five servers set up in Hong Kong, paid to get the app listed in Huawei's official store, and boosted its ranking, causing many victims to prioritize downloading the fraudulent app during searches. Because of related bans in mainland China, legitimate wallet apps cannot normally be listed in the store. Therefore, apps that 'cannot be officially listed but still appear in the store' are likely counterfeit scam apps.
