In terms of baseline power the order of ideal power sources seems to be: 1. Geothermal 2. Hydro 3. Gas 4. Nuclear 5. Oil 6. Coal Gas and nuclear are having a little debate now but it's not a new one. Flared gas gets burned anyway so as long as there's excess supply you might as well use it for power. If there wasn't excess supply I think there's an argument to be made for nuclear over gas. CANDU, TRISO and other tech can make nuclear safer. Gas is still heavy on carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide emissions.
