According to a report by Jinse Finance, on October 5, senior officials from the United States and India stated that trade agreement negotiations between the two countries have reached an impasse, making it increasingly difficult to reach an agreement. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday that the negotiations have "reached a plateau," and it is challenging for both sides to make further compromises. Previously, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai stated on Friday that the trade agreement had entered its final stages but was not yet "on the verge of being finalized." Earlier this year, the two countries had agreed on a preliminary deal and have been negotiating ever since. Indian officials have consistently sought assurances from the U.S. that India would receive more favorable tariff treatment compared to other countries and that no additional punitive measures would be imposed after the agreement is signed. Sitharaman stated at the Munich Security Conference on Monday that the trade negotiations between the two countries have been "difficult and rigorous," and both sides appear to have "reached a plateau, making further concessions or gaining concessions extremely challenging."
