[AI Subscription Fees Unchanged, Services Reduced - AI Usage Fee Inflation]
Reported by Jinse Finance on October 5, OpenAI and Google have reduced usage quotas or the number of available models while maintaining existing AI service subscription fees. Users now pay the same amount but receive fewer services, or must upgrade to higher-tier plans to continue using existing models. This essentially constitutes a form of 'AI usage fee inflation,' as the cost to maintain the same level of service has increased.
Google deducts usage quotas based on the complexity of queries, the features used, and the length of conversations. Tasks requiring higher reasoning capabilities or complex operations consume quotas more quickly, meaning users may hit their monthly limits sooner even if subscription fees remain unchanged. OpenAI attributes the quota adjustments to improved model efficiency.
Although the approaches of the two companies differ, both aim to steer users toward higher-tier plans to gain access to more high-performance AI capabilities. A source in the tech industry noted: 'Even if subscription prices remain the same, the cost of accessing the required models and usage volume may still increase.'
