I basically never tell my friends in real life what I do for a living.
In their eyes, I’m just some random person with a bit of money, who loves traveling, doesn’t need to work, and is basically an unemployed drifter.
I once tried telling a girl that I trade crypto, and she immediately categorized me as someone involved in shady business. She even told everyone at a dinner table with over ten people that I was doing shady stuff. She straight-up asked me if I could 'wash' money. I was completely dumbfounded and couldn’t be bothered to explain. We didn’t stay in touch after that.
Explaining my income source to people I don’t really want to deal with, and then debating whether BTC is a 'scam,' is just too much trouble. The energy cost of convincing them is way too high, and there’s almost no benefit to it. In the end, if things get heated, you can’t even stay friends.
There was even a time when a friend advised me not to post too much about eating, drinking, and having fun on my social media, because it might make people misunderstand and think I’m involved in some shady profession.
People always say you’ll meet lots of like-minded friends on your journey forward, and I have to say that’s absolutely true. These days, the people I chat with daily are basically all Web3 buddies.
