Rivet is a dating app centered around 'social matching,' founded in 2025 and launched at the end of September. It raised $10.5 million in seed funding, with investors including Peak XV Partners, Shine Capital, and Blume Ventures. Former Tinder and OkCupid CEO Elie Seidman is an early investor and advisor.
The CEO and founder, Taru Kapoor, joined Tinder in 2015 (yes, the swipe-left-swipe-right app for meeting people, later acquired by Match Group, the largest dating conglomerate in the U.S.; the Chinese version is called Tantan). She worked at Tinder and Match Group for about eight years, leading their India operations, and left in 2023.
The app’s standout feature is the introduction of a new user role: Matchers. This means you can use the app not just to date but also to help other users find matches. You earn points based on how accurate your matches are, which can be redeemed for cash.
Product Features:
- Users can register as either a 'Dater' or a 'Matcher.' Married individuals, those in relationships, or people not interested in dating can still participate as Matchers.
- The system generates potential matches based on preferences, interests, and relationship intentions. The community then votes on whether the pair is a good fit. Only high-scoring matches are introduced, and both parties can decide whether to view full profiles and connect.
- Matchers earn Karma points for voting. Points can be redeemed for profile boosts, introduction opportunities, cash, or gift cards (e.g., approximately 15,000 Karma points with a high match quality score can be redeemed for around $30).
- The app aims to reduce the fatigue caused by endless swiping by supplementing algorithms with community judgment. It provides fewer but more curated introductions instead of overwhelming users with options. The app is free to download, but some features (like sending messages early) require payment or the use of points.
