[South Korea's Financial Sector Hit by Cyberattacks, Regulators Call for Comprehensive Inspections] According to Jin10 reports, following a series of cyberattacks that resulted in personal data breaches in South Korea's financial sector, the country's financial regulatory authorities have urged financial institutions to promptly complete internal security inspections and report the results to the regulators. Lee Eog-weon, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC), issued a statement after holding an emergency meeting on Sunday with executives from financial institutions and industry associations, stating: 'The entire financial sector must conduct swift and thorough security inspections.' Lee Eog-weon noted that preliminary investigations revealed some of the attacks targeted external websites with weaker monitoring, as well as servers used by loan agents and employees. He also mentioned that regulators could not rule out the possibility of artificial intelligence being used in the attacks and called for accelerating the development of security systems capable of 'defending against AI attacks with AI.' South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has been briefed on the data breach incidents and the corresponding response measures.
