When asked: Do you regret saying 'I am the market maker now'?
Bessent said: 'No regrets, because look, market makers don’t win every single time. Market makers play the probabilities, and over the long term, you win. I can’t control the bond market. What I can do is help people slow down and think, rather than control the market.'
Regarding the rise in U.S. Treasury yields, Bessent believes it aligns with global trends and isn’t a phenomenon unique to the U.S.: 'If there were an idiosyncratic (unique) rise, I’d be worried. We haven’t seen anyone selling U.S. Treasuries to buy German bonds or Japanese bonds.'
