[Spanish Police Arrest 16-Year-Old Key Operator of KillSec Ransomware Group]
According to Decrypt, Spanish police have arrested a 16-year-old Romanian suspect in Alicante, who is believed to be the administrator and main operator of the KillSec ransomware group. Europol stated that law enforcement agencies across Europe have also seized the group's servers and leak sites, securing at least 110TB of stolen data. Two additional individuals were arrested in the UK and Romania, respectively.
The operation on September 30 was led by the Hamburg State Criminal Police Office and the city's prosecutor's office, investigating approximately 1,000 suspected attacks globally, of which around 500 have been confirmed as successful. KillSec has been active since around 2024, employing double extortion tactics, with ransom payments often demanded in cryptocurrency. Investigators also discovered that the group used AI to build and maintain its ransomware infrastructure.
