[Aave Founder Responds: The Involved Module is a Third-Party External Adapter, Not Affected by Aave v3 Contracts]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 2, in response to SlowMist's report stating that the Safe module used in Aave v3's looping strategy was exploited, resulting in a loss of approximately 114.09 ETH (around $310,000), Aave founder Stani Kulechov clarified that the incident did not involve an attack on Aave v3 contracts. Stani Kulechov explained that the affected module is a third-party external adapter built on top of Aave v3, and this incident has no impact on Aave v3 itself.
Earlier reports indicated that the Aave v3 LoopSafe module was attacked, where the attacker exploited access control vulnerabilities in the FlashLoopAdapter's open()/close() functions. By forging Safe authentication and executing arbitrary modules, the attacker stole approximately 114.09 ETH from two Safe multi-signature addresses and repaid about 1300 WETH debt to unlock collateral.
