Fun fact: Why is October often called Uptober in the crypto world?
Uptober is crypto slang, a mix of 'up' and 'October.'
It means that Bitcoin/crypto markets tend to rise in October. It’s a seasonal narrative in crypto, not an official indicator.
It originally spread from Twitter and Reddit in 2020.
Looking at the data from 2013 to 2025:
Bitcoin rose in October during 10 out of the 13 years, with an average monthly gain of around 19% (depending on the data source).
Standout years include 2013, 2017, and 2021, when October saw massive gains.
Common explanations include weak Q3 performance in September, a low base, Q4 portfolio rebalancing, and the timing of post-halving bull cycles landing in October during certain years.
That said, October saw declines in 2014 and 2018.
And October 2025 broke all records:
Bitcoin hit an all-time high at the start of the month, only to face massive liquidations during the 1011 event. It still hasn’t fully recovered from the impact to this day.
