[Amazon Reportedly Plans to Transfer Approximately $8 Billion Worth of NVIDIA AI Chips to SPV and Lease Them Back] According to a report by Golden Finance on October 2, citing the Financial Times, sources revealed that Amazon (AMZN.O) is seeking to transfer approximately $8 billion worth of advanced NVIDIA chips to external investors through a newly established vehicle, aiming to enhance its balance sheet. In recent weeks, Amazon has been in discussions with investors to gauge market interest in this transaction. Under the proposed plan, Amazon will separate thousands of Grace Blackwell chips deployed across data centers in the United States into a special purpose vehicle (SPV). Subsequently, Amazon will lease back these advanced AI chips from the SPV, which will attract external investors by issuing bonds. By transferring these expensive semiconductor assets to investors, Amazon can adopt a more asset-light approach to balance sheet management. Investors anticipate that, based on Amazon's current AA credit rating, the entity will receive an investment-grade credit rating, paving the way for broader participation from investors such as insurance companies and pension funds. Amazon also plans to offer up to 10% equity in the vehicle, meaning Amazon itself will not hold any equity in the entity. (Jin10)
