[Illinois, the U.S. State with the Highest Tax Burden, Halts Plan to Tax Every Cryptocurrency Transaction] BlockBeats reports that on October 2, Illinois introduced a tax policy in June this year that had never been attempted by any other U.S. state before. The policy proposed a 0.2% tax on every cryptocurrency purchase, sale, or even the mere transfer of crypto assets from one wallet to another. This tax would apply regardless of whether the trader made a profit or incurred a loss. In other words, simply using cryptocurrency could trigger a taxable event. On Thursday, Illinois agreed to postpone the implementation of this new policy. According to a court document, state officials and cryptocurrency industry organizations jointly requested a Sangamon County judge to delay the tax's effective date from January 1, 2027, to July 1, 2027. The delay is still pending the judge's approval. [Original Link]
