[IIF: Global Debt Rises to $365 Trillion, Stablecoins Become New Buyers of U.S. Treasuries]
Golden Finance reported on October 1, citing Cryptopolitan, that the International Institute of Finance's 'Global Debt Monitor' released on September 23 shows global debt has reached a record high of $365 trillion, increasing by $10 trillion in six months. Emerging market debt rose by $6.5 trillion to $110 trillion, with China contributing the most. A report from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco on September 28 noted that the share of U.S. Treasuries held by foreign investors has dropped from a peak of over 50% in the late 2000s to about 30% by early 2026. Since 2023, stablecoin issuers have been increasing their holdings of short-term U.S. Treasuries at a faster pace than Japan. The bank predicts that by 2030, stablecoin demand for short-term U.S. Treasuries could nearly double to approximately $400 billion.
