[California Governor Signs Executive Order Mandating Continued Use of 'AI' Terminology by State Agencies]
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the signing of an executive order requiring state agencies and departments under his jurisdiction to continue using the terms 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI,' without adopting alternative terminology introduced by the federal government, unless otherwise stipulated by law.
Previously, on September 29, former President Trump signed an executive order mandating that federal executive departments replace 'AI' with 'Super Intelligence' (abbreviated as SI) in non-legal texts such as official communications, websites, and reports. The White House stated that the new terminology better reflects the technology's capabilities and potential. This requirement is limited to the federal executive system and does not mandate changes to existing regulations, contracts, or other historical documents. For now, SI will still adhere to the AI definition outlined in current laws.
