According to Joy Business, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report reveals that Ghana has become the fifth-largest crypto market in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an estimated annual crypto asset trading volume of around $21 billion. Approximately 8% to 17% of the population has engaged in buying and selling crypto assets. The IMF noted that the use of stablecoins in Ghana is growing rapidly, primarily for crypto trading and inflation hedging. Their application in cross-border settlements within informal and semi-formal economies is also increasing, although their use in retail remittances remains limited. Ghana passed virtual asset-related legislation in December 2025, incorporating stablecoins into its regulatory framework.
