[Nikkei: Sanae Takaichi to Pledge Flexible Response to Market Surprises, Debt Issuance Based on Interest Rates]
Golden Finance reports that on September 30, according to a Reuters report citing Nikkei News, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will pledge in her policy speech on the first day of the special parliamentary session on October 5 to respond flexibly to unexpected developments in the economy and financial markets. She will also explain that the government will determine the annual debt issuance scale based on interest rate trends.
According to a draft of her speech reviewed by Nikkei, she is expected to state: 'When unexpected changes occur in the economy and markets, we will analyze the impact and respond flexibly.' The government has ruled out drafting a supplementary budget but will respond flexibly depending on economic conditions.
In the background, her spending plans have faced market criticism, with concerns over fiscal deterioration causing the benchmark government bond yield to be on track for its fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth as of Wednesday. Last month, she stated that she aims to cap new debt issuance for the next fiscal year at 40 trillion yen (approximately $255 billion).
