[U.S. CFTC Investigates Former Congressman Adam Kinzinger for Betting on His Own Pardon Compliance on Kalshi]
According to Decrypt, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating whether former Congressman Adam Kinzinger engaged in illegal trading on the prediction market platform Kalshi by using contracts related to his potential presidential pardon. The report states that an account linked to Kinzinger traded two types of contracts between December 2024 and January 2025: one on whether he himself would receive a presidential pardon, and another on whether President Joe Biden would issue preemptive pardons before leaving office. Kinzinger provided screenshots showing he made a total profit of $823, with most of the approximately 25 trades resulting in losses. He denied having insider information and stated that he had reviewed Kalshi's rules in advance, interpreting them as only prohibiting trading by those who could influence the outcome or possess non-public information.
