[Cuomo Warns: Crypto Regulatory Progress Could Be Overturned if Democrats Win Congress]
According to a report by Golden Finance on September 30, citing BeInCrypto, former New York Governor and OKX exchange board member Andrew Cuomo warned that if Democrats win Congress in the midterm elections, the current regulatory progress in the crypto industry could be overturned. He told Bloomberg that regulatory agencies' ad hoc rules are far more fragile than legislation, emphasizing that 'regulation is not legislation.'
Previously, on September 15, the Senate rejected the CLARITY Act, which aimed to establish federal rules for the crypto market, with a 49-50 vote (falling short of the 60-vote threshold). On September 17, the SEC granted a five-year exemption for tokenized stock trading. Cuomo predicts that the new Congress will scrutinize such agency rules and hopes that the lame-duck Congress or a bill passed before January 1 next year can address this. He also criticized the industry for failing to organize millions of crypto users to support legislative efforts.
