Odaily Planet Daily reports that OpenAI has announced the launch of GPT-6.1 Sol, which the company claims has performance “approaching” GPT-6 Astra, with the standard API price set at approximately one-fifth of Astra's. Sol is currently available for ChatGPT Work, Codex, and API, but regular Chat conversations are not yet open. The context window is approximately 1.05 million tokens. OpenAI also stated that this week, the API prices for both GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna will be uniformly reduced by about 50%. Tibo explained that with improved model efficiency, smaller quotas should theoretically still handle similar workloads, and they promised not to reintroduce the previous 5-hour limit. However, there is currently no real-world data comparing the old and new plans. Regarding subscription benefits, some users have reported that GPT-6 Astra quotas will be halved. Others argue that considering the price reductions for Sol and Luna, the actual impact when using these two models may not equate to a reduction in quotas. Previously, after Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5, users began comparing usage limits and price advantages across different plans. Some users estimated that the $200 plan could provide several times the quota when using Sonnet 5.5 compared to the corresponding GPT plan. OpenAI is also advancing products based on GPT-6 Astra, including a sustainable agent feature called “dots,” where each agent is equipped with an independent cloud computer capable of handling tasks around the clock. This feature is available to Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise users.
