[Citigroup: Raises South Korea's Economic Growth Forecast, Chip Boom Expected to Support Expansion Through 2028]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on September 30, Citigroup economist Jin Jinwook stated that despite a temporary slowdown in industrial production in August, South Korea's economic growth rate is expected to outpace previous forecasts. He noted that automobile production was briefly disrupted in August due to labor strikes and summer vacations, but the industry has shown recovery in September. Jin Jinwook raised South Korea's 2026 GDP growth forecast by 0.1 percentage points to 3.8% and increased the 2027 forecast by 0.2 percentage points to 3.3%. He explained that the upward revision is primarily based on the recovery of the automobile industry and the robust overall performance of the manufacturing sector driven by the semiconductor boom. Citigroup predicts that the South Korean economic expansion, led by the chip industry, will continue through 2028. (Jin10)
