[The Salvadoran Government Turns to Stablecoins, Set to Launch Digital Dollar App Sivar]
According to a report by Bloomberg on September 29, five years after Bitcoin became the country's legal tender, the Salvadoran government is shifting to a dollar-pegged stablecoin. The Bukele administration is collaborating with Modveon to develop a government-backed app that allows citizens to send, receive, and hold 'digital dollars' (including remittances) via Coinbase's Base network. The app is named Sivar and uses government-issued identification to verify users.
