[Ether.fi to Sever Final Structural Ties with EigenLayer This Quarter]
According to CoinDesk, Ether.fi will sever its final structural ties between its staking tokens and the re-staking protocol EigenLayer by the end of this quarter. Protocol documents indicate that as of August, less than 1% of assets remained in re-staking status, and EigenPod withdrawal credentials are expected to be removed by the end of the year. When Ether.fi launches in 2024, deposits will no longer be automatically re-staked on EigenLayer; in August this year, the company decoupled re-staking from weETH, turning it into a standard liquid staking token. Users who still wish to re-stake will need to opt for independent tokens based on Symbiotic. Ether.fi CEO Mike Silagadze stated that the decision to exit was driven by risk concerns, as re-staking no longer offers meaningful yield opportunities, and stakers have become increasingly aware of the associated risks.
