[Ledger CTO: Claim That Only About 30% of BTC Faces Quantum Risk Is Questionable] Odaily Planet Daily News – Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet stated that the view claiming only about 30% of BTC faces quantum computing risks, while the remaining 70% is safe due to public key hash protection, is problematic. According to previous data from Glassnode, approximately 30.2% of BTC has exposed spending public keys on-chain. However, Guillemet pointed out that this only measures the static state on-chain, and unexposed public keys may still exist in xpub, devices, PSBT, logs, or backups. Additionally, once BTC initiates a transaction, the public key is exposed before the transaction is confirmed. Guillemet cited research from Google Quantum AI, which suggests that under the assumption of a currently non-existent high-speed quantum computer, an attack on secp256k1 could be completed in approximately 9 minutes. Therefore, merely hiding public keys cannot resolve quantum risks, and Bitcoin will ultimately need to migrate to post-quantum cryptography.
