The US dollar is quietly stealing everyone’s purchasing power.
From January 2020 to now, according to this chart:
美国 The purchasing power of the dollar has evaporated by about 23.6%.
In other words:
$100 in 2020
Now only has about $76.4 worth of purchasing power.
The scariest part is—
The number in your bank account hasn’t decreased at all.
You still have $100.
It’s just that what $100 could buy back then might cost you a lot more dollars now.
This is the truly terrifying thing about inflation:
Cash doesn’t necessarily show you a "loss,"
but your purchasing power slowly disappears where you can’t see it.
So the real question has never been:
"Will holding assets be volatile?"
But rather:
"If I only hold cash long-term, how much purchasing power will I have left?"
This is also why more and more people are allocating long-term to:
Stocks, real estate, gold, Bitcoin, and other scarce/productive assets.
⚠️ Of course, Bitcoin itself is highly volatile, and you can’t just assume BTC will rise because the dollar’s purchasing power is declining.
But there’s one thing everyone should remember:
Not investing is also a form of asset allocation.
Holding 100% cash is still making a bet. ₿
