Just to add on about the Bybit hack last year and what happened with THORChain: at the time, 3 nodes had already submitted Mimir transactions to halt swaps on the ETH side, effectively cutting off the ETH->BTC route. But about 30 minutes later, another 4 nodes voted against it, overturning the pause and reopening the network. As for why? It was pretty obvious—there were nearly $1 billion worth of transactions at stake, which meant massive fee revenue for the nodes and LPs. This incident also led to some disagreements, causing a few contributors to leave.
