[Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited's Derivatives Clearing Houses to Accept Chinese Government Bonds, Policy Bank Bonds, and Ministry of Finance Bonds as Non-Cash Collateral Starting November]
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Hong Kong Futures Exchange Clearing Corporation Limited (Futures Clearing Corporation) and The SEHK Options Clearing House Limited (Options Clearing House), will, starting from November 2026, accept Chinese government bonds and policy bank bonds (collectively referred to as Bond Connect Bonds) held through Bond Connect's Northbound Trading, as well as bonds issued overseas by the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China (Ministry of Finance Bonds), as eligible non-cash collateral to meet margin requirements, subject to regulatory approval.
HKEX Chief Operating Officer Calvin Tai stated: The implementation of this enhancement will expand the use cases of Chinese government bonds in the Hong Kong market.
