Every time we hit the mid-to-late stages of a bear market, there always seems to be a major security incident. Today, Bitget lost approximately $352 million to theft, sounding the alarm on market security.
Whenever there’s breaking news about security in the industry, I only do one thing: check my asset allocation. Trading positions can be kept on platforms with good liquidity and a wide variety of assets;
principal funds and long-term holdings should be prioritized on platforms with public reserves, regulatory frameworks, and clear withdrawal paths.
For me, Coinbase falls into the latter category. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Previously, most of my assets were on Deribit because over 90% of their assets are stored in cold wallets, essentially using it as a wallet. Now, a large portion has been transferred to Coinbase for trading U.S. stocks.
Coinbase has a significant compliance and security advantage in the U.S. After all, other exchanges might run into regulatory issues or pure security concerns. From an exchange perspective, Coinbase is T0-level in terms of security.
If you don’t have a Coinbase account yet, now is a good time to register and give it a try: http://(coinbase.com)/aff/cbreg?s=x
