[U.S. Senate Democrats Urge Public Hearing on Prediction Markets, Advocate for SEC Oversight]
According to a report by Golden Finance on September 25, citing AMBCrypto, U.S. Senate Banking Committee Democrats, led by Elizabeth Warren, sent a letter to Committee Chairman Tim Scott requesting a bipartisan public hearing on prediction markets. They opposed the September 23 closed-door roundtable with Kalshi, which was described as 'Republican-only, industry-friendly.' The group argued that prediction markets involving corporate performance metrics qualify as securities and should 'fall under SEC oversight.' Scott responded that the meeting aimed to explore the opportunities and challenges of securities-linked products. Prediction markets have a monthly trading volume of $50 billion and open interest exceeding $1 billion, primarily focused on political and sports topics. They are currently under scrutiny due to concerns over insider trading, manipulation, and jurisdictional disputes between the CFTC and individual states.
