Bitget’s stolen amount isn’t that big, and CEX hacks aren’t anything new. The trouble is, CEXs aren’t making as much money this cycle, so who knows—one of them might not be able to hold on and just shut down one day. It’s not like before when they made so much that losing a bit didn’t matter.
Kind of like how in the last cycle, when DeFi protocols got hacked, sometimes they could cover the losses themselves. But this cycle, even AAVE gets hacked and has to rely on crowdfunding
Fun fact: Most DeFi protocols don’t have excess reserve assets. Even platforms like Sky and Ethena, which specifically set some aside, only have reserves of ~1% of their TVL—can’t even afford to pay white-hat hackers their 10% commission
