ETH and BTC actually don't offer much anonymity or personal privacy in front of exchanges. Exchanges require KYC, making it easy to trace the address clusters behind big players. If bad actors are involved and information gets leaked, it's easy to become a target for robbers. ZEC doesn't have this issue, which is why ZEC is so favored right now.
