Intel's CEO said on stage last week that memory prices have increased five to seven times. For a low-end laptop, 70-80% of the cost is tied up in this, and projects that can't secure inventory have to be pushed back. He sells CPUs, but even he's being choked by memory shortages. Micron closed at 1015 last Friday, and today it's at 1081. This round of price hikes is different from before—upstream suppliers are signing multi-year contracts locking in both volume and price. Prices are fixed in advance, and downstream players can only wait for their turn. The prices have reached this level simply because there's no stock available. Micron's earnings report is coming out on September 30. I'm only watching next year's contract prices. If they dare to raise prices, I'll add a position; if not, I'll cut my holdings by half.
