[The US Dollar Rises to Eight-Week High Amid Fed Rate Hike Expectations]
Odaily Planet Daily News: As the market bets on further rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, the US dollar has risen to its highest level since late July against a basket of currencies. Last week, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points and hinted at at least one more rate hike this year. With market expectations for rate hikes continuing to heat up, the dollar has gained support. During the European afternoon trading session, energy prices rebounded, further boosting the dollar, with Brent crude oil prices climbing back above $100 per barrel. Due to the dollar's safe-haven attributes and the United States' position as a net oil exporter, rising energy prices typically benefit the dollar. However, as interest rate expectations become the dominant factor, the dollar's sensitivity to oil price fluctuations has decreased. "The medium- to long-term dollar strengthening trend we previously predicted may finally be starting to materialize," said Standard Chartered Bank strategist Steve Englander in a report. (Jin10)
