Just checked out the documents about Binance investing in Circle, the parent company of the stablecoin USDC.
Circle is issuing 1.237 million common shares to Binance at a price of $80.84 per share, with Binance investing $100 million to subscribe.
Moving forward, Circle will pay Binance monthly incentive fees for USDC, while Binance commits to promoting the USDC stablecoin on its platform.
The partnership is set for 5 years, and the shares Binance acquires will be subject to a lock-up period. For 2 years from the closing date, Binance and its affiliates are prohibited from selling, transferring, or hedging the shares.
Unless Binance terminates the business partnership under specific circumstances.
This means the stablecoin USDC is now deeply tied to Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.
