[Apollo Navigation Computer Takes 10.3 Seconds for a Single Bitcoin Hash, Requires 13 Million Times the Age of the Universe to Mine a Block at Current Hashrate] Odaily Planet Daily News: The Apollo navigation computer was programmed in 2019 to run the Bitcoin mining algorithm, taking 10.3 seconds to complete a single double SHA-256 hash. This device was previously used for navigation and engine control during the Apollo missions and is equipped with approximately 4KB of memory. Computer scientist Ken Shirriff's team verified the program results using the already-mined 286,819th block but did not obtain any Bitcoin. At the time, the Bitcoin network's hashrate was approximately 65 EH/s, and the device would have required about a million times the age of the universe to find a single block. After the difficulty adjustment on September 5, the Bitcoin network's hashrate reached 934 EH/s, and mining difficulty rose to 127.45 trillion, about 14 times higher than in 2019.
