[Japan and the U.S. Jointly Expose North Korean Hacking Operations: 30,000 Devices Infected, Associated Wallets Received at Least $10.71 Million] Odaily Planet Daily News: The Japanese National Police Agency, in collaboration with the U.S. FBI and other organizations, released a report stating that the North Korean-affiliated hacker group WaterPlum infected over 30,000 devices across more than 100 countries and regions between December 2025 and July 2026. The group stole information from over 7,000 cryptocurrency wallets, with their controlled wallets receiving at least approximately $10.71 million in crypto assets. Their methods included impersonating recruiters from cryptocurrency companies to lure job seekers into running malicious code to carry out attacks. Japanese police also uncovered, for the first time, a "laptop farm" within the country that assisted North Korean IT personnel in remote work. Additionally, they disclosed that suspected North Korean IT personnel had applied for an engineering position at bitFlyer but were not hired.
