[Solana Reduces Target Block Time to 250ms, Transaction Processing Capacity Unchanged]
According to a report by CoinDesk, Solana reduced its target block time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds on September 18, accelerating by approximately 17%. This adjustment was specified by SIMD-0525. Since the amount of computation and data allowed per slot has been proportionally reduced, the network's processing capacity per unit of time remains essentially unchanged. Additionally, the number of consecutive slots a validator can serve as a block producer has been reduced to 4, and the target duration of each epoch has been shortened from approximately 36 hours to about 30 hours. There are plans to further reduce the target block time to 200 milliseconds in the future, but the mainnet timeline has not yet been determined.
