Historic moment. Tokenized stocks have just been officially approved by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This means that most U.S. stocks can now be mapped onto the blockchain and turned into stock tokens for trading.
What’s more, the SEC has granted a maximum 5-year innovation exemption this time, allowing exchanges or market makers to operate this model without needing corresponding broker-dealer licenses.
However, platforms converting stocks into tokens still need to provide written notice to the original listed company first. If the company does not object within 30 days, the process can proceed.
This marks the first time the U.S. government has officially opened a pathway for real stocks to go on-chain.
