I just finished watching the new Sun Yuchen Award organized by Sun Ge @ Justinsuntron, and I think it's quite interesting. He strung together mathematics, AI, Lean, and Crypto, which look completely different. It's also the first time that humans have awarded awards to Agents and Ai
The traditional mathematics award is more about awarding prizes after the achievements are made, while the Sun Yuchen award is the opposite, directly listing problems that humans have not yet solved and labeling them with prices. Whoever solves them will receive the money, without waiting for nominations, without age restrictions, and even without restrictions on whether they are human or not. AI can solve them on its own, and humans can use AI to solve them. Lean is responsible for verifying the proof, while Crypto is responsible for publicly disclosing bonus and distribution records. The rules are actually quite simple
Erd ő s used to like to offer rewards for math problems, and whoever solved them would write a check. In the era of AI, this gameplay has been magnified, and AI can simultaneously try hundreds or thousands of proof routes. If a problem that the whole world has not solved is first attacked by AI in the future, the significance will be great: AI will start from answering questions that humans already know the answer to, and move towards creating knowledge that humans did not know before
This may even slowly become a new AI math arena. In the future, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and DeepSeek can all face the same batch of truly unanswered questions. Who solved how many and what difficulty, may be more valuable than many benchmarks
Then I think the name 'Sun Yuchen Award' itself is quite interesting. Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Abel Prize, Turing Prize, many awards that have been passed down for centuries in the scientific community ultimately leave behind only one person's name. Nobel accumulated wealth through explosives in the past, and later invested his wealth in rewarding those who contributed to humanity. Over a hundred years later, "Nobel" has become a symbol of science and honor
There is a line in Sun Ge's original text that I really like: "Wealth comes from mathematics, it goes back to mathematics
Crypto itself is built on mathematical achievements such as cryptography, number theory, and elliptic curves. Some formulas written by mathematicians decades ago later supported a trillion dollar industry. The person who gains wealth from these mathematical achievements, and then rewards the next generation of mathematical problems with money, this cycle is actually quite romantic
As for the name 'Sun Yuchen Award', if there really is a problem that has plagued humanity for decades in the future, because this bounty is solved by humans or AI, then what remains is not just a prize money
Sun Ge said, "I am not a mathematician. I am an observer, I pay. The rest is up to the proof
