Diesel Surge May Not Last vs. Falling Gas
Increasing US energy surpluses and falling natural gas prices may suggest the recent surge in heating oil, diesel, gasoline and crude oil will be short-lived. Or will natural gas recover and follow the heating oil/diesel future (HO1) higher? My graphic highlights a primary reason the latter is unlikely -- US net exports of crude and liquid fuels are surging above 4 million barrels a day. When HO1 peaked around $4 a gallon in 2008, the US was a net importer of crude and liquid fuels near 11 MMBD.
