[South Korea's KOSPI Average Daily Trading Volume in September Drops to 20.6 Trillion Won, Hitting a New Low for the Year]
The average daily trading volume of South Korea's KOSPI index in September fell to 20.6 trillion won (approximately $15 billion), marking the lowest level since 2026 and less than half of the peak months in May and June. In August, this figure was 25.77 trillion won. Earlier this year, enthusiasm for AI drove retail investors to buy in, pushing the index to a historic high. However, doubts about returns in July triggered a 22% sell-off. Although the index rebounded afterward, it failed to hold above the 7,000-point level.
As of September 14, the combined market capitalization of KOSPI and KOSDAQ shrank by 212.6 trillion won in one month, representing a cumulative decline of 24.66% from the June 22 peak. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have fallen 30.1% and 39.3%, respectively, from their individual highs.
