[South Korean Stock Market Trading Volume Drops to Lowest This Year, Investor Enthusiasm Fades]
Odaily Planet Daily News: South Korean stock market trading volume has dropped to its lowest level this year, with investor enthusiasm fading, indicating that this AI-heavy market may struggle to return to previous highs. The average daily trading volume of South Korea's KOSPI index in September fell to 20.6 trillion won ($15 billion), the lowest since 2026, less than half of the peak months in May and June. Earlier this year, retail investors' frenzy driven by AI enthusiasm pushed the South Korean stock market to record highs, followed by skepticism about returns that triggered a 22% sell-off in July. The benchmark index has since rebounded but failed to consistently hold above the critical 7,000-point level. Analyst Jason Minsang Kam stated: 'Volatility should further decrease, chip cycle concerns should be resolved, and the index is expected to fluctuate within a range.' (Jin10)
